What this university is, in practice

Sarajevo publishes its whole 2026/27 admissions calendar down to the hour, including something almost nothing else on this site offers: a formal window to complain about your ranking. Applications close 26 June 2026 at 16:00 CET, the interview is 30 June, preliminary rankings land 6 July, complaints close 8 July, and the final ranking is 10 July. Tuition is 12,000 convertible marks, about €6,136.

A published right of appeal

The official 2026/27 first call sets out the full sequence: applications open 8 June 2026, close 26 June at 16:00 CET, a structured interview runs 30 June from 11:00 CET, preliminary ranking is published by 6 July, complaints are due by 8 July, and the final ranking is issued 10 July 2026. A second call may run 24 August to 4 September 2026.

The two days between the preliminary and final rankings are the unusual part. Most programs in this catalog publish a decision and that is the end of it. Here the preliminary ranking is explicitly provisional and there is a named window to challenge it — which is worth knowing in advance, because two days is not long enough to discover the process exists, gather your evidence and file.

The possible second call in late August matters for the same planning reason. It is not guaranteed, so it cannot be a plan, but it is a real second chance if the first call does not go your way.

Fourth cheapest in Europe

Tuition is 12,000 BAM per academic year, payable as two instalments of 6,000 BAM; the €6,136 on this site is a conversion of that. Only four of the 118 European medicine programs with a confirmed fee cost less — East Sarajevo and Banja Luka in the same country, Goce Delčev in North Macedonia and Niš in Serbia — against a European median of €17,863.

Within Bosnia, though, Sarajevo is the expensive public option rather than the cheap one: 12,000 BAM against 7,000 at East Sarajevo and a most recently published 8,800 at Banja Luka. What you are paying the difference for is a capital city and a larger faculty, and that is a living-cost trade as much as a tuition one, since Sarajevo is more expensive to live in than Foča.

There is a 100 BAM application fee. Ranking is competitive rather than threshold-based, which is what makes the complaints window meaningful.

Nostrification, or proof you have started it

The application asks you to upload secondary-school transcripts for every year, the diploma or state graduation diploma, a birth certificate, passport or citizenship proof, English proof, any relevant awards, and proof of the 100 BAM fee. Foreign school documents need court translation and equivalence or nostrification evidence.

The concession there is worth reading carefully: proof that the nostrification process has started is accepted, not only a completed recognition. That is unusually accommodating — recognition can take months and several programs in this catalog treat an incomplete file as no file — and it means a late applicant is not automatically excluded. Start it anyway, because 'has started' still requires documentary evidence from an authority that is not the university.

Local-language competence is normally required for patient contact, and the degree runs six years to a Doctor of Medicine.

Who this suits

Applicants who want a capital-city faculty at a fee still in the cheapest handful in Europe, who value a published appeals window and a possible second call, and whose credential recognition is at least under way by late June.

This is what the school-level evidence showed and is not a guarantee of certification, residency, registration, or licensure.
