Medical School Deadlines, Month by Month

Each program is counted once, under the month of the latest date its closing text names. For a window with rounds that is the final round; where a text adds a later step, such as a document deadline or the start of classes, that step's month is used, so a count can run late but never early. It is the same rule the deadline board uses to mark a window closed.

Leave out the UK and July is the busiest month, with 23 programs across Poland, Lithuania, Malta, Czechia and others. Every closing text is stored as the university published it, and you can read each one on its program page in the program explorer.

September 2026 has more programs than any other month, 56, and it is easy to read that as Europe's late window. Most of it is not. 37 of the 56 are UK pharmacy programs, at 35 universities, whose closing text names two dates: the equal-consideration deadline of 14 January 2026 at 18:00 UK time, and a final UCAS application date of 24 September 2026, subject to vacancies. Plan around January; September takes applications only for places left over.

The other 19 are real late windows for an autumn start: all three Medical University of Sofia programs and Varna's non-EU dentistry and pharmacy deadline on 11 September, the Medical University of Łódź on 7 September at 09:00, Carol Davila dentistry on 18 September and the University of Rzeszów on 25 September at 23:59. Beyond October, 6 programs publish dates for their next intake rather than a late one: Rīga Stradiņš's February intake, Silesia's summer-semester registration, Debrecen's January/February pharmacy intake and Debrecen's September 2027 deadline. 119 of the 271 programs publish no date the calendar can pin. That is what the universities publish, not a gap in the research, and each reason means something different for an applicant.

The Italian row is the one most often misread. The 17 programs share one line: "Registration window will be set in the official call, published by 31 August 2026." The 31 August is when the call comes out, not when applications close. The call sets the window, so watch for it and read it the day it appears.

Ireland is the other place to read slowly. Several Irish programs publish only the EU date, which runs through the CAO: Limerick's graduate entry says "1 February 2026 for EU/CAO". Non-EU applicants apply by a different route with its own timing, so the board leaves those unpinned rather than show an EU date to a non-EU reader. UK medicine closes in mid-October for entry the following autumn, roughly eleven months ahead, and the UCAT must be sat the summer before. 35 of the 36 UK medicine programs share one wording: closed at 18:00 UK time on 15 October 2025 for September 2026 entry, next closing 15 October 2026 for 2027 entry. The University of Oxford's graduate-entry course adds a supplementary form and two referee submissions due 22 October 2026. The 15 UK dentistry programs closed on the same October 2025 date.

UK pharmacy works differently. It uses the UCAS equal-consideration deadline, 14 January 2026, and names a final application date in September for places still open. That is why UK pharmacy sits in September on the table above, while 35 UK medicine programs sit in the no-single-date row.

So a UK plan needs to be formed about eighteen months out. If that has already passed, the continental windows from April to September are where a same-year start still exists. The UCAT detail is in do you need the UCAT.

Apply across more than one window. An October UK application and a May Romanian one are not competing with each other, and a rejection in one does not end the cycle. That single habit is the difference between one shot a year and three.

Work each deadline backwards, not forwards: from the closing date, subtract the entrance exam registration, the document legalization, the English test if one is needed, and the time your referees take. What is left is when you actually start.

Deadlines change every cycle, and they change more often than tuition does. Every closing text on this site is stored verbatim from the university's own page, with the date it was checked. The board reads a date out of that text only when it is the reader's closing date, and never picks between several: a window that names more than one date is marked closed only once all of them have passed.

That means a deadline here is evidence of what the university published, not a promise about the current cycle. Before you rely on one, open the source link on the program page and confirm it.

Where a university has not published a date, the page says so instead of inventing one. For 13 programs no 2026-27 date was published or could be confirmed, among them Catholic University Our Lady of Good Counsel in Albania, where no 2026/27 call had been located.
