Is It Too Late to Apply to Medicine in Europe?

Any list of open programs goes out of date within days of being written. The deadline board does not: it is rendered on every visit, it marks a window closed once every date its closing text names has passed, and it offers a calendar file only when the text names exactly one date. Each program page does the same for its own closing date and counts down to it in the university's own time zone.

What the board will not do is guess. When a closing text gives a date only for EU applicants, leaves the window to a call that has not been published, or names two cycles at once, the board shows the published wording instead of a status. Read it the same way: the sentence, not just the date.

35 UK medicine programs carry the same published wording: applications closed at 18:00 UK time on 15 October 2025 for September 2026 entry, UCAS opened the next cycle on 12 May 2026, and the medicine deadline for 2027 entry is 15 October 2026 at 18:00 UK time. The 15 UK dentistry programs closed on the same October 2025 date.

That deadline sits almost a full year before the course begins, the earliest in Europe and the single most common way applicants lose a year without realizing it. The University of Oxford's graduate-entry course adds a supplementary form and two referee submissions due 22 October 2026 at 18:00, a second deadline a week after the first.

UK pharmacy is different. Its 37 programs name the equal-consideration deadline, 14 January 2026 at 18:00 UK time, and a final UCAS application date of 24 September 2026, subject to vacancies. Plan around January; September takes applications only for places left over.

Outside the UK, 99 programs publish a closing date the board can pin, and 81 of them closed between April and September 2026 for an autumn start. These are the last single dates published for 2026 entry:

Whether any of these is still open depends on the day you read this. The deadline board marks each one closed the day after its date, read in the university's own time zone, and each program page counts down to its own.

A deadline that has passed is one situation. A program that has filled is another, and the wording on the page tells you which you are looking at.

Masaryk University records its 2026-2027 dentistry admission as closed with the program full for this cycle. That is capacity, not calendar, and it will not reopen because you asked nicely.

The University of Debrecen stopped accepting September 2026 applications for medicine and dentistry early, citing an exceptionally high volume of applications, and already publishes a final application deadline of 15 May 2027 for the September 2027 intake.

RCSI records its 2026 pharmacy intake as closed at the audit date, with the 2027 intake opening on 1 November 2026. That is a scheduled reopening you can plan around.

Some routes are not open to non-EU applicants this year at all: University of Galway pharmacy has no places for non-EU students in 2026/27, and South East Technological University's pharmacy program has no international entry in 2026.

The practical difference: a closed-on-schedule program tells you when to come back; a full program tells you to look elsewhere for this cycle.

Check which intake the deadline refers to. The most common confusion in this whole topic is reading a UK October deadline and assuming it is for the September two months earlier. It is not; it is for the September eleven months later.

Look at the session-based schools. Several universities run examination sessions rather than one window, so "the deadline" is one of several: the Medical University of Plovdiv publishes six for dentistry. Those schools are listed here.

Consider a February start. Rīga Stradiņš, the Medical University of Silesia and Debrecen's pharmacy program each publish a winter intake with its own closing date. Every February intake is here.

Check the rolling programs. 8 programs run rolling admission or publish no fixed deadline, 6 of them in Cyprus. For those the question is whether places are left, not whether a date has passed, so ask the admissions office directly.

And if it genuinely is gone, use the time. The single biggest advantage an applicant can have next cycle is having the apostilles, certified translations and recognition finished before the window opens, because that chain is what actually delays people — not the application form.
